MEN SUCCESS STORIES
Let me start out by saying that BMT is awesome! There are a lot of reasons it is awesome, but I think the most important one is the sense of family at BMT. I have worked out at a few gyms over the years and i have never had so much fun while working so hard. There are no guys in spagetti strap tank tops looking at themselves in the mirror while pretending to work out. There are no women in way too tight outfits with their parts hanging out. There are just real people wanting to get in shape or stay in shape. It is a very diverse group of people with various levels of fitness and Steve and Kate make it work for everyone. Whether you haven’t worked out in many years like me 18 months ago or are in great shape like I think I am now :), this is a great gym. Give it a try!”
I’ve never been a very athletic or fitness oriented person, but my level of activity decreased even more after a car accident a few years ago left me non-weight bearing on both legs for over 12 weeks. After learning to walk again, exercising seemed even less appealing with my decreased mobility and lingering pain. I belonged to a chain fitness club, but that membership wasn’t getting me any results because I had no accountability in actually going there, and when I did go, my workouts weren’t always the most effective as I was on my own. With my weight continuing to increase (up to 277 pounds) and causing some other health issues, I knew I had to do something. Fortunately, I saw an article in the newspaper about Steve and checked out the Beyond Measure Training (BMT) website. His philosophy and approach to fitness, as well as the accountability of scheduling workouts, appealed to me. I emailed Steve the same day I read the article and met him and Kate that evening, resulting in my signing up for my first month of small group trainings. I shared my medical history, and they started me on a fitness plan that met me where I was at, including Steve physically assisting me as necessary to complete some exercises. I also worked with them on a nutritional analysis that provided me with guidance on healthier and sustainable dietary choices to support and complement the training sessions. In addition, they had me complete a personal inventory to help set self-improvement and personal goals beyond my fitness roadmap – a holistic approach helping me to see the interrelatedness of my physical wellbeing with other aspects of my life. I’ve learned I need to take care of myself before I can take care of anyone or anything else. I’ve been with BMT now for over six months and approaching the loss of 50 pounds and several inches. Besides the fun of going through my closet to weed out clothes that are too big now, I have the benefits of increased flexibility, mobility, and strength. Moreover, I can hardly begin to describe in how many other ways BMT has had such a positive and helpful impact. The physical success I’ve achieved has motivated me to make better choices and implement successful strategies in other parts of my life – mentally, emotionally, nutritionally, and professionally. While my body lets me know I’m doing the work, Steve and Kate are the catalysts helping me make it happen. Their passion is infectious, and other BMT members have been nothing but encouraging. I’m truly blessed to be part of the BMT Fit Family, and I look forward to continuing the journey with BMT to keep improving and becoming a better version of myself. If you’re wanting to make a positive change in your life and looking for an environment of positive, success-oriented people and an unsurpassed level of personal attention and encouragement, then you owe it to yourself to check out Beyond Measure Training. I can attest to their claim that they change lives – they’ve changed mine so much for the better.
My name is Ron Schwarz and I have been training at Beyond Measure Training since October 2014. In that short time, I have seen impressive results. I put on 20 lbs of muscle, decreased my blood pressure, increased my flexibility and met many like-minded people. These are results that can be achieved by anyone who puts forth the effort, and I mean ANYONE!
Steve and Kate provide everything needed, for people looking to change themselves for the better, in a non-judgmental, positive and safe environment. The sheer variety of workouts is mind blowing. They utilize body weight, barbells, dumbbells, kettlebells, heavy ropes and suspension training.
My favorite part is, the workouts are structured so you don’t have to think. After warming up, Steve or Kate walk you through the planned workout, demonstrating every move, ensuring that you execute them properly in a safe manner. You provide the sweat!
It does not matter who you are or how old you are. If you are looking to shed a few pounds, increase your stamina and put on lean muscle, YOU need to be here!
I’ve been meaning to send you a note for some time about the great results I’ve seen since I started working with you both in January 2014. Nothing you haven’t heard from me before while we’ve had our short discussions between workouts, but I really appreciate all the work you both do on a daily basis to help with my overall fitness. Kate you have given me good advice on eating habits that have really helped a lot as well. I am especially proud of my core fitness now due to all the concentration you both put on core exercise and hip flexibility. As you know, I’ve always worked out in some form or fashion over the years, some years better than others, and stay active with golf, snow skiing and some bike riding in the summer. Besides feeling good physically, I will tell you that my core fitness has helped my golf game tremendously. I hit the ball farther than ever, and one interesting key is that I tend to be as strong if not stronger later in the round, whereas I used to fatigue some with my golf swing later in the round in the past. I had more fun golfing last year than ever before. My core and leg strength were also noticed in my skiing last year (still waiting to get out this year). I’ve been skiing since I was a kid so I know what I can do on a mountain, and my strength and endurance was as good as ever last year. Steve, you and I have talked about lower back strength, and I have lived with lower back pain my whole life. I have had little to zero back issues since working out at BMT and I know that is all tied into glute strength and core fitness. You may also recall that I was dealing with some nerve issues when I started at BMT. I had C6/C7 surgery 20 years ago, and was having some nerve pain associated with arm movement above my head, as well as newly discovered cubital tunnel issues, which is the nerve extending around the elbow to the pinky and ring fingers. I’ve done a couple of other things that could be helping with this, but I will swear that improved overall conditioning is the main reason for these symptoms to have subsided. Lastly, one of the great things about communicating with you about any localized pain is that we can continue to workout knowing that we can work around isolated aches and pains by making sure we aren’t putting extra stress on a pain site. In the old days, I’d be more inclined to take a couple of days off and anti-inflamatory to let the pain subside. I don’t believe I’ve missed one workout due to aches and pains (only flu or colds!). Thanks Kate and Steve for your dedication and obvious effective techniques for overall fitness.
When asked to join, I would always have some excuse: time, cost, motivation. Had I only known the community that was waiting for me at BMT once I made one of the best decisions of my life to join, I would have joined so much sooner. The squats, lunges, presses and reps are obviously great and move you closer to your goals, but what I look forward to most is saying hello to all the members, high-fiving after the work out and pumping up the group during our sets. Simply put, the community that Steve and Kate have created at BMT is worth every penny and every ounce of sweat I put into BMT. Great day to be a BMTer!!!
