It’s extremely important to understand something when it comes to your training.
You are very rarely going to have a “perfect” training session.
In order to have the “perfect” training session, so many things have to go right. You need the right amount of sleep, you need to have eaten well that day, your stress levels have to be under control, your body has to feel good, you need to be motivated, the list goes on and on.
The point here is there are so many external factors that we deal with daily that take energy from us, like it or not. This will impact the energy you have for your training sessions, so it’s important to have a full understanding of this, otherwise you’re setting yourself up for failure.
If you expect to walk into every training session feeling, strong, energized and motivated, you’re going to be disappointed, and it may lead to a downward spiral of missing too many training sessions in a row.
What we need to do instead is understand that you’re not always going to feel great, strong, or motivated. This can be difficult, but we can’t let our feelings take over what we know we should be doing for our health on a regular basis.
Feeling weak, tired or lethargic? Show up and start going through the motions with zero expectations. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve done this and did at least one thing in my session that I was excited about. I guarantee you’ll feel better that you did it, and walk out of the gym in a much better mental space then when you walked in.
I hope you think of this message next time you don’t feel like getting your session in.
Have a great one!
