Everyone has heard that protein is important for our bodies and health, but why? What makes protein so beneficial, and how can we make sure that we are getting the right amount in our diets? Let’s take a look at why protein is so important, how much you need, and where to find it.

What Does Protein Do For Us?

Protein is essential for building muscle in your body. It helps to repair any damage caused by physical activity or exercise and plays an important role in helping you maintain a healthy weight. Additionally, protein helps create hormones that regulate things like hunger, sleep, moods, and other bodily functions. Without enough protein in your diet, your body won’t be able to properly repair itself after physical activity or injury.

How Much Protein Do We Need?

Most people should strive to get 10-35% of their daily calories from protein sources. That comes out to around 0.45 - 1 gram of protein per pound of body weight every day. To put this into perspective, one chicken breast (around 3 ounces) contains roughly 21 grams of protein—that’s almost half the amount most people need in a day! So if you eat three chicken breasts per day (roughly 6 ounces each), you will meet your daily requirements easily.

Where Can I Find Protein?

Protein can be found naturally in many different foods such as fish, eggs, beans, nuts & seeds, dairy products (yogurt & cheese), and poultry products (chicken & turkey). If you’re looking for vegan sources of protein then legumes (beans & lentils) are a great choice as well as tofu and tempeh. Additionally there are many supplements on the market such as whey powder or plant-based powders that can help boost your daily intake if needed.

No matter what kind of lifestyle you lead or dietary restrictions you have, there are plenty of ways to make sure you’re getting enough protein every day! Eating a balanced diet with plenty of fruits & vegetables alongside lean proteins is the best way to ensure good health and longevity. With just a few simple changes to your daily routine—like adding more lean proteins—you will be on the path to total wellness in no time!
