Have you ever felt like you’ve been spinning your wheels, yet not getting anywhere? Or maybe it feels like life is passing you by and another year has come and gone without anything to show for it? It is easy to get caught up in the day-to-day hustle and bustle of life, but taking time out to reflect on what you really want can be an incredibly powerful exercise.

Why Reflection Matters
It is difficult not to be influenced by those around us in this era of social media overload. We are constantly bombarded with images of people seemingly living their best lives, which can make it difficult to focus on our own goals and dreams. But we have to remember that everyone’s journey is different, so we should take some time to figure out what will make us truly happy. Taking time for reflection allows us to gain clarity on our own path, as well as give us the motivation necessary to make progress towards achieving our goals.

Creating Specific Goals
Once you’ve identified the areas where you would like improvement or growth, it’s important to create specific goals accordingly. This will help ensure that your goal isn't too vague or unachievable. Every goal should be broken down into smaller milestones that can be used for measureable progress. This process also serves as a great way of holding yourself accountable for reaching your goals within a given timeline. Having these smaller milestones will allow you to track your progress and stay motivated along the way.

The most important thing when setting any type of goal is that it should align with your values and bring you closer towards achieving true fulfillment in life. So take the time this December—or any month—to sit down and really think about what matters most to you, then create specific SMART (specific, measurable, attainable, relevant, and timely) goals accordingly. Doing so will help ensure that when next December rolls around, there will be plenty of reasons why this year was worth celebrating!
