Shoulder pain is extremely common with many people we work with, and it is due in large part to the fact that most of us sit for a majority of our day for work. It's impossible to sit with good posture (human beings weren't built to be sitting), so it's important that we get intentional about doing something every day to help counteract the effects of sitting all day.
Foam rolling the lats can be an eye opening experience. Most people hold more tension in the lats than they realize, and they usually find out quickly if that's the case for them once they foam roll their lats for the first time. If your lats are too tight, it can limit your ability to reach overhead. If you have limited mobility to reach overhead, then you lift a heavy weight overhead, you can see how this can turn south in a hurry.
