Did you know most people underestimate how many calories they are having by as many as 500-1000 calories per day?! The main reason this happens is because people simply do not track the food they are consuming, and they don't know or pay attention to the nutrition facts of said food.

Why it's important to track

Imagine you went a period of 6 months without checking your bank account. You had no idea how much you were spending, how much you were saving, what your expenses are, or how much money you're making. If your goal is to save money, odds are you bank account would not look great after 6 months in this scenario.

The same is true with our nutrition.

When we don't know these numbers, our weight, body fat, physique, and ultimately our health is not going to be in a spot where we want it to be.

This is why the first step in your nutrition journey should be to audit yourself by building the habit of tracking your food. I am in the best shape of my life and I track my food every single day. Using apps like Myfitness Pal or Cronometer make it really easy, and the health and confidence benefits of feeling and looking better are worth the 10 seconds it takes to log my food.

Don't Change What You're Eating

The best part about the beginning of your weight loss journey is that you don't have to change a single thing about WHAT you're eating.

All you have to do is understand how much of everything you should be having, and stay within those limits. I have protein pancakes every single day (I love them) and I'm still in the best physical shape of my life. I've simply figured out how to make them fit within my daily nutrition.

The power of tracking

The power of tracking your food is two-fold. On one end you start bringing your calorie intake down to a level closer to what it should be to start losing weight. On the other end, the habit of tracking your food helps you become nutritionally mindful on a daily basis, which in my opinion is the most important part, because this is a mindset you can keep for the rest of your life.

Move More

As important as it is to become nutritionally aware, it's even more important for us to move our bodies. Human movement is the most important factor to maintain efficient metabolic and cellular processes within the body, which ultimately puts us in the most resilient position possible to avoid deadly diseases, sickness and cancer.

Start by going for 5-10 minute walks everyday, and build up to 20-30 minute daily walks. You will be SHOCKED as to how much of a positive impact this makes on your health, mindset and energy.
