Back in 2018 I suffered from an abdominal hernia, and at the time we didn't have enough employees, so I couldn't take time off and get it fixed. It progressed to the point where I couldn't lift weights without significant pain.

I knew that stopping my routine was out of the question, so I started thinking about what I could do to stay active until I could get the hernia fixed. I realized that bodyweight training didn't hurt, so I started doing some research.

I ended up hiring a bodyweight training coach, and started learning new things and started to get a different perspective on training. These are skills and principles that I still use today and that have become a part of our training here at Beyond Measure Fitness Training.

The point here is that when I initially had my hernia, I could have let the setback of the abdominal hernia stop me completely and taken a break from working out until I got my hernia fixed (over a year later). Had I let the hernia stop me, my physical and mental health would have significantly suffered from lack of activity and I would have never learned the skills that have made my team and I more diverse as trainers.

Here's my question to you...

When things become inconvenient for you, do you let the inconvenience stop you, or do you find a way around it?

It doesn't matter what your goal is or what you apply this to, if you want to achieve something, you have to stay in the game- you have to keep moving. In the last 13 years of training thousands of people, the people that keep moving through the difficult times are the ones that ultimately achieve their goals.

Mindset shift

If you can shift your mindset to see these inconvenient moments in your life as OPPORTUNITIES rather than roadblocks, everything will change. The inconvenience is an opportunity to come up with a strategy you can take with you the next time an obstacle gets in the way. Let's face it, circumstances will rarely be perfect, so it would be wise to anticipate them, and build strategies you can use along the way.

Challenge yourself to get excited about the opportunity to navigate through it, because you'll come out the other side with a new perspective, and you'll likely learn new, useful skills along the way. The best part: you'll look back and see that this obstacle didn't stop you, and you're still in the game.

Let's have a great week!

-Steve
