We've now reached December 15th, which means we still have a few weeks remaining in the holiday season. I'm sure you all have holiday parties, shopping and what seems like a to-do list that keeps getting longer now matter how productive you are.
With all that's going on, it's safe to say that your exercise and nutrition routine isn't going to be what it typically is. Don't worry, mine isn't either!
I want to make you aware that times like these are critical when it comes to our health and fitness journey, because so many people put their health and fitness on hold, convincing themselves they'll just get started again once the holidays are over.
Another reason for this is that so many of us (including myself at times) can get tricked into believing that health and fitness is an all or nothing deal. We assume that if we fall off our nutrition or workout routine that we've somehow ruined the entire thing.
Remember, becoming and staying healthy does not require you to be perfect. It does, however, require you to stay consistent.
One mindset hack I love that I learned from author James Clear is to avoid the second mistake.
Planning on indulging at a holiday party or dinner? Great! I think you should and have a great time!
The trick here is to avoid the second mistake, which would be going out and having an unhealthy breakfast the next day.
Instead, plan something healthy for breakfast the next day, which would help you avoid making the second "mistake". Once you start making multiple mistakes in a row, this can become the start of a new pattern, which is how we develop new habits and lose old ones.
So to be clear, I want you to enjoy the holiday season, but I also don't want you to lose the healthy routine you've worked so hard to build over the last several weeks, months or years. Enjoy yourself, but put some thought into this to put yourself in a better position to get back into your full routine after the holidays.
