"New goals don't deliver new results. New lifestyles do. And a lifestyle is a process, not an outcome. For this reason, all of your energy should go into building better habits, not chasing better results."
-James Clear, Atomic Habits
Okay so before you get confused, yes, you still need to have goals. What Clear is getting at here is that it is not the goal itself that delivers the results. What actually delivers the results you want is your lifestyle/habits.
Start by setting goals so you know what you're aiming at. In order to hit that goal, you need to start building the habits that are associated with the person that has achieved said goal.
Once you've made your goals, think to yourself "What does this person do on a daily basis? What kind of habits do they have? What does this person NOT do?
These are the habits that you'll need to build in order to get the results you want. I would recommend starting with the one that seems like the easiest one for you to make a part of your life. Start there, then move on to the next habit.
For example...
If your goal is to lose 30 pounds and become happy, what does the 30 pound lighter version of you look like?
They probably:
-Workout and move consistently
-Have consistent eating habits
-Get better sleep
-Drink lots of water
Etc..
Goals are 100% important to have. They are motivating and can inspire you to start taking action. However, if you don't start focusing on all of the habits (lifestyle) required to achieve your goals, you'll start to get frustrated at your lack of progress, and continue to wonder why you just can't seem to make it happen.
I hope you find this helpful. Have a great one today!
