"A healthy man wants a thousand things, a sick man only wants one."

Last Wednesday night I got sick for the first time in a long time, and it was no fun. With a 102 degree fever and terrible headache, I wasn't able to move, drink or even think about eating. We've all been there. Luckily, this was just a 24 hour bug and I was able to recover very quickly.

As I was starting to feel better Thursday night, I remember thinking to myself "I'm actually glad this happened."

I hadn't gotten sick in a long time, which can ultimately lead to losing perspective. When you get sick, most of the things that normally stress you out seem to disappear. The only thing you're focused on is feeling better. When I was sick all I wanted was to feel better so I could sit and be with my family. Nothing else in the world mattered.

The interesting thing about our health is that we typically don't notice it until something is going wrong such as a sickness or injury. Think about it, when was the last time you stopped and said to yourself, "man, I'm so happy I'm not sick today."? That usually happens right after you recover from being sick.

My challenge to you today is to not wait until your sick to sit down and be grateful to be in good health. It's the most important thing we all have, and it's the thing that gets taken for granted most often.

When you do this, all of the things that usually stress you out just won't have as much of an effect on you.

Here's to a great week!

-Steve

PS

Here are 3 things you can do to decrease the odds you get sick this winter: 1. Move often 2. Stay hydrated  3. Get your 7-9 hours of sleep. I wasn't doing well with my sleep or water, which is what most likely led to my sickness last week.
