Don’t Let Summer Be the Season You Quit on Yourself
The simple mindset that will help you stay strong, fit, and healthy — even when life gets busy.
Let’s call out the elephant in the room: summer is one of the most common times of year when people give up on their health and fitness routines.
And it’s not hard to see why.
The weather is nice. There are parties, BBQs, vacations, weekend trips, longer nights on the patio... and all of it adds up to distraction and inconsistency.
That’s life. And it’s normal.
But here’s why this matters:
To stay fit, strong, and out of pain as you age, consistency with your strength workouts is critical.
Strength training is what keeps your joints healthy, your muscles strong, your energy up, and your body resilient — especially for adults 40+.
And here’s the key truth: you won’t be perfect this summer...and you don’t need to be.
Schedules will change. Travel will happen. Weeks will get busy. And when it does, I want you to remember this powerful quote from Atomic Habits by James Clear:
“Missing once is a mistake. Missing twice is the start of a new habit. Never miss twice.”
Give yourself grace, yes. But don’t let that grace turn into permission to stop doing what you know keeps you healthy.
This summer, here’s a simple goal for you:
Aim for 8 strength workouts per month.
That might look like:
-1 workout one week, 3 the next
- Shorter workouts while you’re traveling
- Extra sessions before or after a vacation
It doesn’t matter how you get there — just don’t quit on yourself.
You’ve worked so hard to build your routine. Don’t let the distractions of summer convince you to throw it away.
It’s okay if it’s not perfect. Just stay in the game. Your future self will thank you.
