The Three C’s: What Separates Lasting Change from Constantly Starting Over

I thought it would be helpful to share what I’ve seen over and over again in the studio. There’s a big difference between people who get stuck constantly starting over and those who make real, lasting change.

It really comes down to what we call the Three C’s:

  1. Consistent

  2. Coachable

  3. Comfortable (getting uncomfortable)

Let’s break them down.

Consistent

Being consistent doesn’t mean being perfect. It means showing up and doing your best as often as you can, even when life gets messy.

The only real rule for consistency is this: don’t quit.

If you don’t quit, it’s only a matter of time before you start to see the progress you’ve been looking for. That’s how momentum is built. Not in a single “perfect” week, but by stringing together one small step after another.

Coachable

Sometimes we’ll ask you to try something that might feel different from what you’ve done before. It might even go against what you thought was right or what worked for you in the past.

Here’s the thing... if you’re willing to stay open and give it a try, your chances of making progress go way up.

Being coachable isn’t just about results, either. It’s also how we keep you safe in the studio. The people who trust the process, take feedback, and make adjustments are the ones who keep moving forward without setbacks.

Comfortable (Getting Uncomfortable)

Once you know the exercises and feel confident moving through your workouts, the next step is learning to push yourself. And yes, that’s going to feel uncomfortable.

At first, this happens naturally because you’re starting from a lower activity level. But as your endurance and strength grow, you’ll have to dig a little deeper to find that edge again.

Here’s an example: if you’re doing a set of 10 reps, by the time you hit that 10th rep, it should feel pretty tough to finish. That level of challenge (of getting uncomfortable) is what helps you get stronger and build muscle.

The more time you spend leaning into that discomfort, the more growth you’ll see.

Nothing here is mind-blowing. But I’ve seen it work time and time again.

If you want lasting change, focus on these three things:

  • Stay consistent.

  • Be coachable.

  • Get comfortable being uncomfortable.

Do those three, and the results will come.
